Whilst a barrister, Caroline would hand paint pieces of porcelain for friends, and, encouraged by their appreciation, she decided to pursue the uplifting work of hand painting fine china pieces with vibrant and colourful designs, in preference to the drier attractions of the law! Caroline's designs are inspired by the intense colours of her travels and celebrate the noise of colour and form around the world, echoing those who communicate the joy of life through their art.

Her first priority was to produce high quality, practical pieces on which to paint.  The ceramic cows and cachepots are produced in strong, white porcelain.  The tableware and presentation dishes have unusually high bone ash content and this achieves strength yet fineness and translucency in the glossy china; the range has been specifically conceived and tailored for modern living.  The on-glaze painting celebrates a return to the traditional attractions of hand painted workmanship and has a vibrant palette, ideal for Caroline's dynamic designs.

In December 2010 CHH Design was launched with the signature cow butter dishes and cachepots.  Very quickly the range expanded to become a sophisticated collection of tableware and home accessories, characterised by exuberance, originality, quality and design.

The range comprises an imaginative selection of versatile and highly ornamental pieces. There is a co-ordinating range of tableware, 'Diversity', but Caroline is also constantly creating new designs and makes bespoke pieces for more eclectic collectors.  Presentation bowls, unusual dishes and cachepots are, each one, a vivacious painted piece, which will enhance the mood.  The Apple Dishes are irresistibly attractive in form and in their myriad of original designs; they also have a multitude of decorative uses.  The logical extension of the range into jar candles took advantage of the translucency of the fine bone china jars, whereby the flame illuminates the hand painted designs, and after enjoying the refined fragrances of the candle, the jar lives on as a candle holder or in many other decorative guises.

Finally, each object is presented in a sumptuous black and pink box; “I want to help revive the art of giving” Caroline admits, “so I am thrilled that my boxes have been so much admired”.

Caroline sees the essence of her business as a 'colour conversation'.  It has been a journey of discovery in many ways, the evolving dialogue of how people see colour, which colours say what to them, how colour enhances their mood and how they want colour within the home. The conversation continues as the different designs within 'Diversity' present themselves in many playful combinations.  Each CHH Design piece communicates with every other, and though all the designs are individual and exuberant, the colours still sing in harmony.
